Stella Tsiropina, a philologist with a PhD in Theater Studies who comes from a seafaring family, joined “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece to discuss the “Young Homerides” festival, now in its fifth year on Chios, an island with a proud seafaring tradition, and the musical evening “Watch…”, dedicated to Nikos Kavvadias, the poet of the sea.
“The Homerides were descendants of Homer who kept his epics alive and helped spread them. The festival welcomes high school groups from Greece and Spain, who bring their own interpretations of passages from Homer’s works to life through wonderful theatrical performances. As for Nikos Kavvadias, his poetry set to music remains ever on our horizon: 51 years after his death, his poems and prose continue to inhabit our memories and conversations,” Tsiropina said.
