August 15 is a day of celebration and, for some, devotion. It is the feast of the Virgin Mary, a cherished part of Greek summers, also known as the “Easter of summer.”
In the heart of August, all of Greece comes together to celebrate, from the Peloponnese to Ikaria, and from Crete, Kasos and Amorgos to Kozani, the Zagori villages and Kefalonia.
On the feast day, Voice of Greece’s “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” presents a two-hour program exploring the festivals held in honor of the Virgin Mary, along with local customs and traditions across Greece.
