The program welcomed Elena Piperidou, a teacher and cultural activities coordinator at SAHETI School in Johannesburg.
As she explained, 60% of the school’s students are of Greek heritage. Many families from other language backgrounds also choose SAHETI for its high academic standards.
Speaking about the school’s 28 October commemorations, Piperidou noted that all students take part, from kindergarten through the final year of high school, alongside the school’s bouzouki orchestra.
She also spoke of the tremendous responsibility and sense of duty she feels to keep the Greek language alive in South Africa.
