Greek guitarist Spiros Exaras, who lives in New York, is a guest on “Voices and Music on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 6 pm.
The internationally distinguished Greek guitarist and jazz composer has been living in New York for 31 years and his album “Anatomy of a Crime”, with lyrics by the iconic poet, writer and journalist Fondas Ladis, is a new proposal in the field of Greek music and lyrics.
“Anatomy of a Crime” consists of 11 unpublished poems by Fondas Ladis, which are another proof of the timelessness and power of his lyrics. A pioneer, a realist and a romantic at the same time, he took out of his drawer his old, but so topical collection and entrusted it to Spyros Exaras, the musician who has a unique skill to unite the music of the world in a fascinating way and managed to bring out, with unique ingenuity, this difficult detective genre of lyrics. Breaking down, once again, musical boundaries, he used New York musicians from crime-ridden neighborhoods like Harlem; their experiences are relevant to the subject matter, but in addition to being top jazz players, they are familiar with other styles of music, even the Greek hasapiko or aptaliko.
The songs are performed by the unique and multi-dimensional George Dalaras, the theatrical singer Doros Dimosthenous, the talented and up-and-coming Argyris Loulatzis, the Greek-American muse of Mikis Theodorakis, Lina Orfanou and the reappearing after years, “Panagia Ton Patision” by Manos Hadjidakis, Gianna Katsageorgi. The album is released on digital discs (CDs) and on all digital platforms (Spotify, Apple music, Amazon, Tidal, etc.) by Metronomos Publications.
