”Our Town” tribute to the great Greek singer Marika Papagika | 24.12.2023, 12.00-14.00

On Sunday, December 24th, at 12:00-14:00 Greek time, the show “Our Town” will make a tribute to the singer Marika Papagika.

In the studio, the great actress, director and singer Kerasia Samara, will unravel with Themis Rodamitis the thread of the fictional life of the unique artist Marika Papagika, who sang in a special way, enchanting the audience and fought hard to survive.

Kerasia Samara, who recently performed Marika Papagika excellently in the performance she staged, will talk about her own approach to the “Papagika” phenomenon giving information about the singer’s life. Of particular interest of this performance are the jazz adaptations of Papagika’s songs by the well-known composer and guitarist Takis Barberis who will speak on the show. In addition, musician Giorgos Makris, writer Nassi Toumbakari and on behalf of the Kounadis archive, Elita Kounadi will participate. There will be references to Marika Papagika’s life in America, to her meetings there with important artists and collectors such as the famous Tetos Dimitriadis, where as head of the Orthophonic label, he recorded her last four songs. A detailed description will be given to the luxurious nightclub that had opened in New York called “Marika’s”, a kind of “Café Aman” in the heart of Manhattan that attracted many patrons of various ethnicities.

The show will feature songs from various genres she performed: Greek folk music, Greek popular, rebetiko etc. A special show in a festive atmosphere, dedicated to Greeks around the world.
