“That morning the swastika flag was not waving above the Acropolis” | 24 May 2024, 13:00

ERT journalist Thomas Sideris presents a radio documentary of a total duration of 55 minutes, about the daring plan of two young students to take down the swastika from the Acropolis on the evening of May 30, 1941, almost a month after the surrender of Athens to the Nazis.

The documentary will air on Voice of Greece radio on Friday, May 24, from 13:00 to 14:00 Athens time, and it will then be available to listen on demand on ERTECHO.

As the Battle of Crete has already taken a dramatic turn, Manolis Glezos and Lakis Santas, amid the drive of their youth and their passion for freedom, come up with a daring plan; within a few hours, they study all the details of access to the sacred rock of the Acropolis and, on the same evening, they meet in Koumoundourou Square, carrying a flashlight. The countdown to one of the most important acts of heroism against Nazism in all of Europe had already begun.
