Vangelis Korakakis visits “Our Town” | 19 Jan. 2025, 12:00 PM

This Sunday, January 19, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM (Athens time) – with a repeat broadcast on Monday, January 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 AM – the radio show “Our Town” will feature a heartfelt conversation with the beloved and authentic folk composer, lyricist, and singer Vangelis Korakakis.

In an in-depth discussion with host Themis Rodamitis, Vangelis Korakakis will reflect on significant moments from his remarkable journey, his roots in Kaisariani, and the rich history of Greek folk music.

He will delve into the legacy of bouzouki virtuosos (such as Chiotis, Papadopoulos, Palaiologou, and Tsomidis) and legendary rebetiko composers (like Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis, and Papaioannou), sharing stories and insights about this cherished genre.

Korakakis will also highlight the talents of the new generation of musicians, with a special mention of his son Vasilis, a gifted bouzouki soloist, and discuss his collaborations with acclaimed artists like George Dalaras and Dimitris Mitropanos.

Listeners can look forward to hearing iconic songs from Korakakis’s career, as well as live performances in the studio by the artist himself.
