On Monday, May 12, at 10:00 PM Athens time, the show “Our Town” will host Antonis Skiathas.
The poet, anthologist, and literary critic will talk about his hometown, Patras, exploring its most interesting historical landmarks, its diverse communities, and their unique characteristics. He will highlight the city’s beautiful 19th-century buildings, gardens, estates, and the iconic lighthouse from which the ocean liners once sailed to America.
A special focus will be placed on the International Poetry Festival of Patras, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, and which Antonis Skiathas has been directing. The guest will reflect on the festival’s most significant moments and this year’s plans, which include open events for the city and its people.
Antonis Skiathas will also discuss the literary magazine “Elitrochos” and its contribution to literature. He will speak about the poets of the 1930s, with a particular focus on Elytis, the poets of the 1970s, and his admiration for Solomos, Kalvos, and Papadiamantis.
Additionally, he will talk about the cities he admires for their character and the literary festivals they host.
The show will also feature some of his poems.
