In the preface to his book “The Last Days of October”, academic Konstantinos Svolopoulos writes:
“The temporal focus of this study — on the very beginning of the war conflict, up to the moment when the Greek troops counterattacked — shows that a small nation, when possessing a moral advantage, is capable of drawing strength and prevailing against a powerful adversary. I have sought information from numerous sources — both unpublished and published — consulting diplomatic archives in Greece, Great Britain, and Germany, and delving into published material on the first critical developments of the war: reports, diaries, memoirs, testimonies, military findings, accounts of events. I believe that a detailed reference to these crucial twenty-four hours holds particular historical importance.”
— Konstantinos Svolopoulos (1938–2019), Professor of Modern Greek History at the University of Athens and full member of the Academy of Athens since 2003 (Vice-President in 2009 and President in 2010).
