“Myths Set to Music” – Part II | 13 June 2026, 17:00

“…and the shades of the dead wept with emotion at the unexpected sound of the music and stepped aside in reverence before the lyre player. Hades and Persephone were astonished that a mortal traveler had entered their palace unhindered. Orpheus knelt before them and pleaded for the return of his beloved Eurydice, weaving his supplication into the most heart-rending melody ever heard by god or mortal. From his throne, the stern ruler of the Underworld replied: ‘Orpheus, all know that tears and entreaties seldom move me. Yet your music has brought such delight to my ears that it merits a reward. Your wish shall be granted. Your wife will follow you, but until you have crossed the gates of Hades, you must not turn to look upon her. Should you do so, you will lose her forever…’”

On Saturday, 13 June 2026, from 17:00 to 18:00 Athens time, Voice of Greece presents the second part of Maria Andrikopoulou’s enchanting book “Myths Set to Music”, published by Kalentis and beautifully illustrated by Nikolaos Andrikopoulos.

Through a captivating blend of storytelling, mythology, and music, the book invites young and adult listeners alike into the imaginative world of ancient Greece. Ten vividly retold myths—carefully researched yet full of charm and humor—unfold to the accompaniment of music, revealing a universe where gods, heroes, mythical creatures, and melodies are inextricably intertwined.

Like a thread running through a richly woven tapestry, music connects each story, guiding listeners through adventures, transformations, triumphs, and losses that have resonated across the centuries. The result is a delightful journey through the mythological imagination of the ancient Greeks, brought to life in a way that is both accessible and evocative.

At the conclusion of each tale, the author offers a brief companion note, shedding light on the mythical figures, legendary beings, and divine characters that populate these enduring stories and continue to inspire wonder to this day.

Join us for the second part of this memorable exploration of the myths of ancient Greece—some familiar, others less well known, all illuminated by the timeless power of music.
