Giorgos Katsariotis, a runner from Ancient Olympia, is the guest on Wednesday, 06 August 2025, at 22:00 Athens time, on Voice of Greece’s show “Remarkable Personalities”, hosted by Christos Pagonis and Stavroula Karali.
Katsariotis recalls his very first short-distance run at a race in Kallithea back in 2015 and shares how, just one year later, he found himself running the Athens Classic Marathon.
To date, Mr. Katsariotis has participated in 13 marathons in Greece and abroad, with a highlight and life-changing experience being his honorary participation in the Marathon Pour Tous, held as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Joining the show is Professor Athanasios Strigas from the Department of Sport Organization and Management at the University of the Peloponnese. Professor Strigas shares fascinating insights with the Voice of Greece audience about the history of the Marathon, including the stories of Pheidippides and Spyros Louis, and how a child’s bedroom in the royal palace of London led to an additional two kilometers being added to the marathon course.
Mr. Katsariotis also speaks about the Olympia Night Run – Run Under Zeus, a full moon night race taking place for the first time in the heart of Olympia this coming Sunday, 10 August, at 9 p.m. The event is organized by the Olympia Runners under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, and other major institutions.
