100 Years of Manos Hadjidakis, 100 years of his presence, his melodies, his critical thinking. Obviously, the entire week here aboard “Greek Music Express”, Voice of Greece’s daily English-speaking broadcast, is dedicated to our great composer.
It all begins on Monday, 20 October, with songs and melodies Hadjidakis wrote for the theatre, performed by exceptional voices such as Giorgos Moutsios, Nana Mouskouri, Giorgos Zografos, Alexandra, and Giorgos Marinos.
On Tuesday, 21 October, we will be admiring four great divas of Greek song – Venetsanou, Giannatou, Kagialoglou, Farantouri – and how they approached some of Hadjidakis’ most beautiful songs.
On Wednesday, 23 October, we will be stopping at the crossroads of two arts, music and cinema, through selections from Hadjidakis’ soundtracks for films such as Blue, Topkapi, America America, Sweet movie and Faccia di spia.
On Thursday, 24 October, Hercules Economou shares his personal favourites from the composer’s vast catalogue – a hand-picked “best of” where Children of the Storm meet Children Down in the Plain, and Little Rallou keeps company with Mariánthi of the Winds and Peribanou.
GME’s tribute to the leading composer concludes on Friday, 24 October, with instrumental pieces by Hadjidakis, melodies without words but full of images and emotion.
