International Museum Day on Voice of Greece

Since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has designated May 18 as International Museum Day. In celebration of this occasion, The Voice of Greece—ERT’s radio service for the Greek Diaspora—will present a series of special broadcasts in the coming days, highlighting the vital role museums play in contemporary society.

Specifically:

As the Herakleidon Museum has been selected as the featured institution for 2025, archaeologist and museologist Vasiliki Papakosta offers a guided exploration in the program “Imprint” with Fuli Zavitsanou, airing on Thursday, May 15 at 12:00 (Athens time). Meanwhile, Pantelis Mitsiou, Head of the Development Department, will speak about the museum’s history and its activities for International Museum Day on the show “Ariadne’s Thread” with Ariadni-Sofia Kouri, Sunday, May 18 at 10:00 (Athens time).

The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology “Kostas Kotsanas” will be featured on Friday, May 16 at 10:00, in the program “Take Your Time”.Prokopis Angelopoulos hosts the discussion, joined by Panagiotis Kotsanas as guest.

Finally, on Sunday, May 18 at 11:00 (Athens time)—International Museum Day itself—Katerina Batzaki presents two notable Greek museums abroad in the English-language program “Infinitely Curious”. Her guests will be Sarah Craig, Director of the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, and Dr. Katherine Kelaidis, Director of Research and Content at the Hellenic National Museum of Chicago.
