Tribute to Flery Dandonaki | 18 May 2025, 12:00

On Sunday, May 18, from 12:00 to 14:00 Athens time (with a repeat on Monday, May 19, from 05:00 to 07:00), the radio program “Our Town” presents a heartfelt tribute to Flery Dandonaki.

A remarkable figure in Greek music, often described as “the fairy of Greek song,” Dandonaki left a lasting impression on the country’s artistic landscape.

The program follows her journey—from her early performances as an actress in the United States to her later evolution into a distinguished interpreter of Greek folk music.

With a singular voice and profound artistic sensibility, Flery Dandonaki gave fresh life to the traditional sounds of both Greece and Brazil, and went on to collaborate with some of Greece’s most iconic composers, including Mikis Theodorakis and Apostolos Kaldaras.

A major highlight of her career was her long-standing collaboration with Manos Hadjidakis, with whom she recorded legendary works such as Rebetika Classics, Captain Michalis, The Great Erotic, and Neighborhoods of the Moon.

The tribute will feature reflections by composer Nikos Kypourgos and singer Ilias Liougos, who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Through personal stories and rare archival recordings, the program explores Dandonaki’s artistic journey, her deep need for authenticity, and her insistence on being respected not only as an artist but as a person. A rare and radiant presence in Greek music, her legacy continues to resonate.
