The Dean of the Department of Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus, Mr. Angelos Pantouvakis, spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” about the graduation ceremony of the English-language master’s program, now in its sixth year. He emphasized the importance of maritime and shipping education for Greece, as well as the values and ethics that should accompany young people’s studies.
Also joining the show was Captain Giorgos (Chadiotis) K. Perselis from Arvanitochori, Kasos.
“The sea is like my daily coffee—I can’t live without it, and I need to see it every day. I caught the ‘sailing bug’ at a young age, as my father was also a seafarer,” said Captain Giorgos. He continued: “The sea is also like a moving prison, and we owe it a great deal. A great deal!”
With over 27 years of service, he shared his early career experiences: “My first domestic voyage was aboard the Vasileios of Koutlakis in the Aegean, while my first overseas journey was on the Vasiliki of Mavroleon, sailing from the Great Lakes of Canada to Portugal.”
