The visual artist Alexis Kyritsopoulos, recently awarded by the Academy of Athens for his lifetime work, joins Themis Rodamitis in an engaging discussion about the “sources” of his inspiration and the significant encounters in his life. He recalls his early years, vividly bringing to life his old neighborhood, Exarchia.
He talks about his introduction to the magazines of the time, his first experiences with painting and illustration, and his relationships with fellow visual artists (Karras, Tsoklis, Mavroidis, Baharian, D. Fotopoulos, among others). Special mention is made of his long-standing and highly creative collaboration with Dionysis Savvopoulos, as his illustrations grace the covers of the songwriter’s albums.
The conversation also touches on his time in Paris at a young age, as well as the imaginary landscapes of Athens, which he will bring to life through his artistic vision.
Alexis Kyritsopoulos discusses his illustrated books, poetry, humor, fairy tales, light, color, and aesthetics in the visual arts today.
