Captain Argyris Chatzelenis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” – Part II | 12 Mar. 2025

Veteran Chian captain and maritime studies associate at the Oinousses Naval School, Argyris Chatzelenis, talks about adjusting to daily life after so many years at sea, on ships, and in the academy.

Among other things, the captain mentions:
“What I miss most is sailing the sea, not swimming in it—because I swim all year round, both winter and summer, and quite a lot. As for my teaching at the Oinousses Naval School, my grandmother once told me: ‘Put bracelets on your hands, my child,’ meaning diplomas and education.”

Captain Argyris also advises young people to pursue a career in the maritime industry only if they truly love the sea, not just the money.
“The money will come later,” he adds.

He also speaks about the work and history of the Panchian Cultural Association of Merchant Marine Officers (PESANM), founded in 1975, which this year celebrates 50 years of contribution.
