“Faraway words” with Vivian Abraamidou-Ploumbis from Prague

On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, Ms. Vivian Avraamidou-Ploumbis, from Prague was a guest in the studio of “Voice of Greece”. On the broadcasting program “Faraway words” Ms. Avraamidou-Ploumbis spoke about her life in Prague, the journey and the 25 years she has been there, about her hospitable home, which has always been a “hotel”, as she says, but also about the Greek light that she lacks abroad.

The occasion of her new book “Tis Ntropis”, which is published by Melani publications, the 11th in her career as a writer, gives the opportunity to discuss with Natasa Vissarionos and Giannis-Stelios Tzirvelakis one of the most painful pieces, not only of her own history, but also of the history of Cyprus: about her hometown, Famagusta. It was 1974 when the Turkish invasion of Cyprus took place and many were forced to leave their homes and homeland, due to the looting. Among these people is Ms. Avraamidou, with memories of her childhood and her family home still vivid.

These memories, as well as their revival due to the geopolitical happenings lead her to her new book, in which memory remains, revived for generations to come through the coupling of image and text, since inside the book one can “scan” and see digital photographs that inspired the author to write 73 short stories. “I feel that we did not do as much as we should have done,” she will note, remembering – full of emotion – the most recent events.
