Katerina Kyrmizi, one of the most significant singer-songwriters of our generation, was a guest in the studio of The Voice of Greece on the show “Take Your Time.” She spoke about her beginnings in music, growing up in a musical family, her acquaintance with Mariza Koch, and her participation in the children’s play “The Mermaid Takes Little Alexander on a Journey,” where she played the daughter of Oceanus, the Oceanid.
She reminisced about her first steps in the music industry at just 19 years old, signing with the label of Giannis Petridis and Kostas Zougris for her debut album “Concerto for Chocolate and Roses.” She also spoke about the pivotal role of her collaboration and life with Nikos Grigoriadis, whom she married and with whom she has a daughter, now 22 years old. She reflected on how this shaped both her career and personal life, as well as how her character and temperament prevented her from making compromises that could have propelled her career to the top, despite possessing all the artistic qualities to get there.
We also recalled the filming of her first music videos, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, her return to recording and live performances after withdrawing from the scene between 2002 and 2008, following her father’s passing and the birth of her daughter. Naturally, we also discussed her musical successes with Nikos Grigoriadis from 2009 to the present.
In the studio, we talked about how crucial it is for a young female performer to write her own songs, ensuring a distinctly female voice is heard in lyrics. We touched on her future plans, which remain closely linked to her family life.
