Architect and collaborator of the Hellenic Maritime Museum and the Institute of Mediterranean Studies, Konstantinos Damianidis, spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” about the exhibition From Stern to Bow: Sailing Ships of the 18th and 19th Centuries, presented at the Hellenic Maritime Museum from October 30 to November 23.
Mr. Damianidis discussed the state of sailing ships and maritime activity in the Greek islands and mainland Greece during the 18th and 19th centuries, highlighting the main shipbuilding centers of the era and the evolution to the present day.
The exhibition, under the auspices and support of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and the Hellenic Maritime Museum, includes presentations and documentation on shipbuilding and navigation during the final period of sailing in Greece, utilizing new technology.
