Maira Myrogianni, Sec.General for Diaspora Hellenism, on “Take Your Time” | 26 Sept. 2024

The new Secretary General for Diaspora Hellenism and Public Diplomacy, Ms. Maira Myrogianni, was hosted today in the studio of Voice of Greece on the show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos, where she spoke about her goals, priorities, and vision.

“We are trying to do our best to strengthen the relationship between the Diaspora Hellenism and the metropolitan center and to promote the image of our country abroad in the best possible way,” stated Ms. Myrogianni.

In response to a question regarding the handling of issues faced by Greeks in the diaspora, she emphasized, “We have a Greece outside of Greece. Greeks outside of Greece are ambassadors of our country; they engage in many areas, and we must assist them in every possible way with the difficulties they face and their need to have a strong connection with our country.” She also mentioned the development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ strategic plan for Diaspora Hellenism for 2024-2027, highlighting that one issue that needs to be resolved is that of the consulates.

At this point, she referred to the creation of programs being launched this year, such as the virtual assistant and MyConsulLive, which utilize artificial intelligence to serve citizens.

Regarding brain drain, she stated that there has been a collaboration and a memorandum signed to discuss job opportunities in our country and attract more Greeks, starting with Germany.

On the subject of the voting rights of expatriates, she noted, “It was a fundamental priority of the Prime Minister’s policy to facilitate the voting of Greeks residing abroad and to strengthen the relationship of the Diaspora Hellenism with elections. For this reason, we took more measures for both postal voting and for the participation of expatriates in the elections,” she emphasized.

Finally, the Secretary General for Diaspora Hellenism and Public Diplomacy mentioned that in the upcoming period, she will be attending events in Buenos Aires in November. Additionally, she plans to visit Canada in early November and subsequently visit the United States.
