Veteran radio operator Giorgos Platanakis from Zakros, Crete, is at the helm of “Voice of Greece” and “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”
“My maritime booklet was obtained on April 13, 1972, and it was my ticket to the future and better days,” says Giorgos Platanakis with great joy. “It allowed me to see the whole world, broaden my mind and horizons. I experienced free tourism. I took the best from all over the world, its cultures and traditions, and came back to excel in my beloved homeland, Zakros.”
Endlessly recounting memories and emotions from his life at sea, Giorgos Platanakis shares incredible stories. For instance, he talks about the M/V “Phaidra” which spent over a month in Venezuela’s Puerto Cabello loading grain destined for China, among many other tales.
