Sakis Zafeiropoulos, the founder and creator of the campaign Speak Greek in March, was featured on “Faraway Words” with Natasa Vissarionos on Voice of Greece on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
This campaign, launched in Melbourne, aims to encourage the use of the Greek language in Australia throughout March. The month was chosen symbolically, as it marks Greece’s national anniversary of the start of the Greek War of Independence.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the initiative has expanded beyond Australia, reaching Greek communities worldwide in an effort to keep the Greek language alive.
Among the campaign’s upcoming goals is the establishment of a Foundation for Greek Language and Culture, which will fund scholarships and support university programs. Mr. Zafeiropoulos emphasized the necessity of such a foundation and mentioned that he is seeking financial support from Greeks in Australia.
Finally, he revealed that the campaign’s leadership should now be passed on to the younger generations.
