Bishop Photios of the Republic of Malawi, the small African nation, spoke about the celebration of the Dormition of the Theotokos by the local Greek Orthodox community on August 15, as well as the efforts being made to secure funding for a multi-purpose building near the church, intended primarily for the training of local clergy. He was speaking on the Voice of Greece radio program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Bishop Photios also made special mention of the birthday celebration of 99-year-old Mrs. Melpomeni, the oldest Greek woman in Malawi, who arrived there from Lemnos 78 years ago. Following the Divine Liturgy, the celebration took place at the Greek Club. Mrs. Melpomeni was born on the very day of the Dormition of the Theotokos.
