Yiannis Mavroeidakos, founder of the iconic Desmos bookstore in Paris’s Montparnasse neighborhood, joined Dimitris Kontogiannis on Voice of Greece’s “Our Global Voice.” He discussed the idea that inspired him to open a bookstore devoted exclusively to Greek literature in 1983, the greatest challenges he faced in its early years, and his expansion into publishing French translations of major Greek authors. He also spoke about a new publication he is preparing for the Greek diaspora.
Mr. Mavroeidakos shared his own story, discussed the history of the Greek Community, whose board he served on many years ago, and recounted the history of the Maison de la Grèce.
A cultural bridge between Greece and France, Desmos is also a gathering place for Greeks and philhellenes in Paris. It offers Greek language classes and doubles as a small art gallery.
