Captain Christos Kaloumas from Kalymnos speaks about his lifelong love of the sea. Growing up beside the waves, he dreamed from an early age of becoming a seafarer.
He first embarked in 1986 on the cruise ship M/V ALBATROS, sailing routes to Greece, Turkey, and Italy. Soon after, he moved on to cargo and merchant vessels, gradually climbing the ranks until he became master.
Today he serves with Maran Tanker, where he expresses gratitude to the owners, crews, and all the company’s staff with whom he collaborates.
For young people considering a maritime career, Captain Christos offers this advice:
“You must love what you do—and of course, love the sea. At the same time, you need curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a thirst for knowledge about the constant changes in shipping, from new technologies to evolving regulations.”
