“Faraway Words” on the United Hellenic Women Club of Brussels | 24 Nov. 2025

The program hosted Thisvi Ekmektzoglou, a representative of the newly-formed organization United Hellenic Women Club (UHW), who spoke about its goals and the actions planned under the umbrella of the United Nations “UNiTE” campaign — which this year focuses on combating digital violence against women. Specifically, on Saturday 29 November, the United Hellenic Women Club is holding a mini reading marathon in the centre of Brussels, highlighting and illuminating the phenomenon of violence against women. All readings will be streamed online that day. In parallel, videos have already been collected from Greek women around the world, reading texts by Greek women authors or sharing their own personal stories of gender-based violence. These videos will be posted on the organization’s YouTube page, and anyone interested can follow the live action in Brussels that day on the organization’s Instagram.
The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness among Greek diaspora women and at the same time connect them with the metropolitan centre.
