Michalis Triantafyllou, a writer from Naxos who spent many years at sea as a chief engineer, joins “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
In his own distinctive way, he takes us into his world of the sea, ships, and voyages, which he loved so deeply. He also reads two chapters from his new book, “I thalassa tis mnimis.”
Among other reflections, the veteran seafarer says: “The sea is a way of life. At sea, we grew into men, built our lives, and came to know the world and ourselves. Life at sea taught us so much about life, respect, responsibility, friendships, departures, and returns. We learned who we were. I learned about the stars and Cassiopeia, as I would often go up from the engine room to the bridge and the bridge wing to chat with the captain and navigating officers and learn from them. I also learned about everything connected with the wonderful world of the sea, voyages, and stars.”
