Maritime Economist Thodoris Chouliaras on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 14 Jan. 2026

Maritime economist Thodoris Chouliaras, Petroleum Economist and CEO of UPOIL Tankers, spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.

He referred to the 18th Shipping Conference, titled “Optimizing Maritime Supply Chains: Suppliers, Purchasers & Forwarders in Sync,” which he chaired and organized at the War Museum. The conference welcomed more than 514 delegates from shipping companies, suppliers, freight forwarders, bunkering companies, technology providers, and institutional stakeholders. He stressed that “for efficiency and resilience in the maritime supply chain, industry professionals are called upon to operate in a coordinated manner, with a shared strategy, transparency, and effective use of technology.”

Mr. Chouliaras also discussed the topics addressed at the first shipping conference of the year, which featured 31 speakers across a series of engaging panels—distinguished market executives from Greece and abroad.

Finally, he attempted to explain the current global oil landscape, emphasizing that “geopolitics produce geoeconomics.”
