An excerpt from the speech delivered by the President of WISTA HELLAS, Ms. Vivi Kolliopoulou, at the annual gala and awards ceremony honouring women who have distinguished themselves in the maritime sector. “Fair Winds and Following Seas” and Voice of Greece were there to cover the event.
“Developments in the shipping industry over the past year have been rapid, driven primarily by geopolitical shifts and the course of decarbonisation. Within this complex landscape, our members and the global maritime community were called upon to adapt and provide effective solutions to the challenges that arose. This year our membership grew to more than 600. At a time when image often precedes substance, we made a conscious choice to remain committed to action. The criteria for the WISTA HELLAS Award are clear and non-negotiable. It is given to an individual who has distinguished herself professionally, demonstrated strong leadership skills, and consistently supported inclusion in the workplace, empowering women in the industry. If even one woman feels inspired by the person we honour—whether to enter the maritime sector or to continue claiming her place—then our goal has been achieved. Today, with great emotion, we honour Metaxia Psaltis, Chief Operations Officer.”
