PASOK MP for Chios Stavros Michailidis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 28 July 2026

PASOK MP for Chios Stavros Michailidis speaks to “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece about an event he organized in Chios on Saturday in collaboration with the party’s Shipping and Island Policy Department, focusing on a new national strategy for Greek shipping.

Among other things, Mr. Michailidis stresses: “The state must give maritime education for young people the attention and support it deserves, because without officers and skilled personnel, Greek shipping has no future. We need a radical upgrade of public maritime education, modern Merchant Marine Academies, continuing professional training, and incentives to attract more young people to maritime professions. The competitiveness of Greek shipping begins with its people.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Mr. Michailidis says: “PASOK is establishing a Price Observatory that will protect passengers and promote fair competition. Through its digital platform, citizens will be invited to report ticket prices on various ferry routes.”

Finally, the Chios MP notes: “Fortunately, we have highly experienced shipowners who keep Greek shipping strong. The state must also stand by and support every seafarer’s family.”
