On Thursday, 22 October 2026, we welcomed Despina Sinou, Assistant Professor of Public Law and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences at Sorbonne Paris Nord University, to discuss student protests in France and the broader demands of young people in Greece and across Europe. Toward the end of the first hour, following our review of online and newspaper headlines, we discussed current affairs with Giorgos Stamatis, a New Democracy MP elected on the party’s nationwide ticket.
In the second hour, our studio guest was the much-loved actor, director, writer and cartoonist Giorgos Galitis. Among other things, we discussed his stage appearances this season: his own play “Ta radikia anapoda” (“Pushing Up Daisies”), now in its twelfth year, and “The Death of Ivan Ilyich,” now in its seventh year, in which he co-stars with Thanasis Kourlampas. We also talked about his adaptation and direction of “Caveman,” starring Sotiris Kalyvatsis.
During the conversation, we connected with Chania to speak with Matthaios Frantzeskakis, director of the Chania Film Festival, about its 14th edition. The festival opened on Wednesday, 21 October, and will conclude on Sunday, 1 November, with the closing ceremony and awards presentation.
The opening ceremony honored Marinella Vlachaki and Dimitris Kalogerakis and featured a special screening of Nikos Koundouros’ “The Ogre of Athens.” The program continues with numerous screenings, parallel events and workshops for children and adults, as well as a special tribute to Bela Tarr, attended by Mihaly Vig, the composer of his film scores. Further highlights include an event honoring Nikos Kavoukidis and comics artist Giorgos Botsos, and a special event exploring Manos Hadjidakis’ time in Crete. The festival also features exhibitions, book presentations and screenings of student films made through its year-round educational programs.
