On 29 September 1943, in Paramythia, Thesprotia, 49 of the town’s most prominent residents were executed, each one selected by local collaborators of the Nazis. Among them was Charalambos Drimtzias, who left behind seven children, his wise counsel, and a canteen. Nearly eighty years later, his daughter Varvara and his son Antonis discover that canteen, and the memories of their father’s final moments begin to unfold.

Istorima is the largest oral history project in Greece. Over 1,000 young researchers seek out storytellers across the country, listening to and preserving memories: stories of love, of place, of change – moments that shaped lives and identities. These are the untold stories that history books leave behind. The initiative was created by journalist Sofia Papaioannou.
