Ioannis Maragoudakis: “We are devastated, there are no words for this loss.”
The sailing community is devastated by the loss of the 40-year-old French sailor off Kasos.
The chairman of the Organizing Committee of AEGEAN 600 and president of Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC), Giannis Maragoudakis, spoke to “FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS” and Voice of Greece about the tragic incident involving the 40-year-old French sailor who died off Kasos on Monday night, during the second day of the international sailing race.
Mr Maragoudakis, a veteran sailor and ocean explorer, expressed the sailing community’s devastation over the loss. He stated that from the moment the incident occurred, they have been in constant communication with the Single Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Ministry of Merchant Shipping and the Kasos Port Authority, which are working with judicial authorities to carry out all necessary procedures.
“We are devastated, there are no words for this loss,” said Mr. Ioannis Maragoudakis. He emphasized the importance of safety, noting his long-standing commitment to it as president of Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). “For sixty years, we have organized the Aegean Rally with absolute safety, and thank God no accidents have occurred. For us, the safety of the crews is paramount. This is why we offer pre-race seminars and provide comprehensive guides on safety and the prevailing weather conditions”.
