In Friday’s episode, November 29, 2024, after reviewing current events and the day’s newspaper headlines, we spoke with Nikolas Farantouris, MEP for SYRIZA, about his responsibilities in the European Parliament and initiatives by the European Union for environmental protection and combating climate change. We then discussed developments within SYRIZA following Famellos’ election. Farantouris highlighted the need for SYRIZA to address societal challenges and embrace progressive governance, stating, “SYRIZA has a reason to exist only if it can serve this vision. If it cannot, something else will emerge.” He pledged full support for the new party leader but stressed that “SYRIZA must focus only on the future to have any hope.” He also criticized those who take parliamentary seats and then leave the party, calling such actions “shameful and hypocritical.” Finally, he emphasized the urgency of swift party restructuring and advancing proposals that can garner broad consensus to enable progressive governance as soon as possible.
In the second hour, we connected with Paranesti, Drama, and spoke with Panagiotis Sainatoudis, founder and leader of Peliti, an organization dedicated to preserving traditional seeds. For years, Peliti has been discovering and maintaining these seeds in its Seed Bank, providing them alongside related expertise to farmers aiming for food self-sufficiency.
In the final segment, we met actress Aspasia Kokosi, who spoke publicly for the first time about her battle with breast cancer. Emerging victorious from this challenging chapter, which concluded with a successful reconstructive procedure, she felt compelled to send a message to women: not to fear speaking about the issue, to face it promptly and courageously, and to trust in science, undergoing regular check-ups.
Kokosi also discussed her professional plans, her experience in the hit TV series by Reppas-Papathanasiou, The Curse of Jella Delafranga, and her temporary departure from theater due to her health struggles, which she has now overcome. She fondly recalled her most successful and beloved theater roles and expressed her eagerness to return to the stage as soon as possible.
