Suzanna and Eleni Vougiouklis on “Our Town” | 06 Apr. 2025

On Sunday, April 6th, 2025, “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis featured the Vougiouklis sisters. The exceptional performers, researchers, and musicians Suzanna and Eleni Vougiouklis, who sing in more than 20 languages and dialects, have made a unique artistic journey. Their repertoire spans a wide range of ethnic music, including styles from Southern Italy, Spain, France, the Balkans, and the Americas.

They shared their experiences and talk about the prestigious venues where they have performed (Carnegie Hall – New York, and others), as well as their diverse repertoire, which includes extraordinary renditions of rembetiko, Pontic music, gospel, blues, and more.

From Xanthi, where they were born, to New York and Odessa, from Thessaloniki to Trieste, their distinctive story is conveyed artistically with a unique multicultural style and character. In an in-depth conversation, they discussed their favorite artists, such as the diva of song Fairuz, Christodoulos Chalaris, Nikos Gatsos, and their theatrical studies on Grotowski.

They also talked about the importance of acting studies and the body on stage, their favorite cities, the concept of homeland, light, sun, aesthetics, and the evolution of the Greek and artistic language.
