On the Friday, May 16th episode, we explored the news of the day through the headlines of major news portals and newspapers. Ivana Djordjevic then brought us up to speed on key developments from around the world. In the second hour, we turned to a significant issue that emerged following a verbal directive from the Ministry of Migration. Refugee and migrant accommodation centers were instructed to evict individuals who have either been granted asylum or had their applications rejected, with the aim of encouraging their return to their countries of origin. We discussed the situation with Ms. Eleni Karagianni, an educator and Refugee Education Coordinator at the Schisto facility. She voiced concern for those granted asylum, noting the absence of an integration plan. She also highlighted the case of children already enrolled in the school system—some preparing for national exams—who could make positive contributions if given the opportunity to integrate fully.
Shortly before 11:30, Ms. Eirini Persidou, Head of Development and Artistic Programming at the Takis Foundation, spoke to us about the upcoming two-day festival organized by the Foundation on May 17 and 18. The event will take place at its premises in Kamatero and will feature students from primary schools in the First and Third Districts of Athens.
To mark International Museum Day, we discussed the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology “Kostas Kotsanas” with co-founder Mr. Panagiotis Kotsanas, who offered a preview of what visitors can expect this Sunday. As the show drew to a close, we heard the latest from Kelly Vranaki, ERT’s special correspondent in Basel, Switzerland, on Klaudia’s major success in advancing to the Eurovision Song Contest final. We wrapped up with the latest sports news delivered by Antigoni Drakatou.
