In the prograμ on Monday, August 10, 2026, we read the front pages of major news portals and newspapers and then devoted the second half-hour to tourism, speaking with three representatives of hoteliers in popular Greek destinations. Joining us by phone were Polykarpos Chalkidis, representative of the Preveza regional unit for the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers; Nomikos Konstantakis, President of the Lemnos Hoteliers’ Association; and Dimitris Ambrosiadis, Public Relations Officer of the Corfu Hoteliers’ Association, who updated us on tourist activity and issues concerning rising costs and infrastructure.
In the second hour, following the international news from Ivana Djordjevic, we spoke with Dimitris Kaliambakos, professor at the National Technical University of Athens and director of the Metsovion Interdisciplinary Research Center, about the center’s initiative involving 14 postgraduate students who presented their projects in the village of Anthiro. Their work aims at the comprehensive development of the deserted and isolated mountainous areas of the Municipality of Argithea. The book containing their 14 projects constitutes ready-to-use material for public institutions to seek state funding for the implementation of these projects, without having to pay private consulting firms for studies. With Dimitris Kaliambakos, we discussed the need to bring Greece’s isolated areas back to life, including both small and larger villages that are becoming depopulated.
In the final part of the program, we discussed the port of Piraeus as the starting point for the great migrations from Greece to America, Canada, and Australia, from the beginning of the 20th century through the 1960s. Stories of migration filled with hopes but also disappointments, dreams that became reality, as well as the exploitation of unsuspecting people by networks operating around the port. Our guest in the studio was Stefanos Milesis, author, historical researcher, and President of the Philological Society of Piraeus.
The program concluded with a radio documentary interview with Nikos Kalogeropoulos from 2013, which was broadcast as a tribute to the great actor, who passed away at the age of 74 on Sunday, August 9.
