On Monday, 21 July, the show “Wander Words” with Katerina Batzaki took us to Zakynthos—the island of poets, earthquakes, and freedom.
In this radio journey, the island’s history, culture, and contemporary landscape came to life through three distinct voices:
– Journalist Katerina Drymi reflected on memory as an act of resistance and the invisible threads that keep Zakynthian identity alive.
– Deputy Mayor for Culture, Takis Vryonis, a veteran of both media and local cultural life, spoke of a place that continues to create, sing, and resist flattening forces.
– Young entrepreneur Lenia Mavrikou posed the essential question: How can we build a model of tourism that respects and incorporates the island’s cultural identity?
With a soundtrack of Zakynthian ballads, the broadcast became a bridge between past and future.
Zakynthos is not just a destination.
It’s a mirror—of who we are and where we’re heading.
