On this episode of “Wander Words”, coinciding with the celebration of Epiphany at the very start of 2026, we spoke with Mr. Evangelos Karamanes, Director of the Centre for Folklore of the Academy of Athens, about the spirit and symbolism of the day, as well as its deep-rooted connection to Greek Orthodox tradition and the customs observed across Greece. We then connected live with Larissa and Kozani to talk about destinations that are especially popular at this time of year, learning from ERT correspondents Vangelis Mitrousias and Despina Amarantidou how the festive events were experienced by those who traveled to Thessaly and Western Macedonia.
In the second half-hour of the program, we turned our focus to two of Greece’s most popular ski resorts, operating in Thessaly and Central Greece. We spoke with Mr. Sotiris Giannopoulos, Head of Communications at the Parnassos Ski Resort, and Mr. Giorgos Polygenis, CEO of the Pertouli Ski Center. They shared vivid impressions from the snow-covered slopes during a season in which ski resorts had only begun operating a few days earlier, due to prevailing weather conditions.
