On Saturday, 6 September, Piraeus hosted a unique swimming celebration, successfully organized and with the participation of many swimmers.
This spectacular 1,200-meter race, titled “Piraeus Open Water 1896,” revived the spirit of the classic route of the First Modern Olympic Games of 1896 in the city’s waters, offering participants and spectators an unforgettable experience filled with athletic passion and historical resonance.
The show hosted Nikos Yemelos, Municipal Sports Commissioner of Piraeus and former swimming champion/coach, together with swimmers Antonia Rakopoulou and Dimitris Negris, who took part and triumphed in the race, shared their thoughts about the event, the sea, and the city of Piraeus.
