“Faraway Words” on the exhibition “Greek Artists and the Shaping of American Art in the 20th Century” | 15 Oct. 2025

The program featured museologist and cultural diplomacy researcher Georgia Manolopoulou, who spoke about the Hellenic Diaspora Foundation, based in Patras and dedicated to documenting and promoting the work and legacy of Greek visual artists abroad. As she noted, the Foundation already holds around 2,000 works of art, organizes exhibitions, and conducts research that is also published in various editions.

The conversation was prompted by the exhibition currently hosted at the Athens Municipality Arts Center, located in Parko Eleftherias, titled “Greek Artists and the Shaping of American Art in the 20th Century,” which runs until 30 October.
Ms. Manolopoulou discussed the exhibition’s impact – the sense of Greek identity running through the works, the memory and trauma they carry, and the ways in which Greek artists helped shape the evolution of 20th-century American art.
