Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis presents a reflective tribute marking 52 years since the Polytechnic uprising – honoring the young people who stood up to the violence of the military dictatorship of 21 April, even sacrificing their lives. The program’s guest for the occasion is Dimitris Papachristos, the announcer whose impassioned voice and urgent appeals broadcast from inside the occupied Polytechnic became one of the most powerful testimonies of those dramatic hours.
He speaks about the harrowing events as he lived them – the violence, fear, resolve, and the sacrifice “of the students in struggle, of the Greeks in struggle” – and recall the explosive atmosphere, the faces, the slogans, and the enduring passion behind the timeless demand for “bread, education, freedom.”
