On Monday, 24 November 2025, the Voice of Greece program “Wander Words” took listeners to the captivating city of Kozani, presenting its history, traditions, and culture through three guests who know the region in depth.
The first guest was Chariton Karanasios, researcher at the Academy of Athens, philologist, and paleographer. With his knowledge and sensitivity, he traced the city’s early beginnings, its long-standing educational tradition, and the quiet yet defining moments of its historical journey.
Next, Matina Tsikritzi Momtsiou — professor of foreign languages, collector of folklore material, and author of important books on local customs — spoke about the richness of Kozani’s identity. From the famous Carnival “Fanoi” and the distinctive local dialect to traditional foods and industrial heritage, she presented Kozani as a living organism where tradition is not simply displayed but experienced.
The program opened a warm and meaningful window onto the region, highlighting what makes it unique: its historical resilience, cultural wealth, language, customs, and the people who keep its memory and identity alive.
This tribute to Kozani continues in the next episode.
