The Greek language now has its own World Day. On the occasion of its establishment by UNESCO, Professor Vassilis Karapostolis was the guest of Elina Stamatatou on the program “Greeks Around the World – Greece in Denmark” on Sunday, 01 March 2026.
Vassilis Karapostolis is Professor Emeritus of Culture and Communication at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was born in Athens and studied at the University of Athens and at the University of Stirling in Scotland. He has published a large number of essays, studies, articles, and books on manners and values in the contemporary world, social behavior, the family, young people, education, and related subjects.
On the program, he discusses the value of the Greek language and the consequences that arise when our vocabulary “impoverishes” and foreign words multiply. Special reference is made to the impact on young people when the mother tongue is replaced by another language — a frequent phenomenon within the Greek Diaspora.
