Mr. Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, the newly appointed Secretary General at the Ministry of Environment and Energy and former Secretary General for Ports, Port Policy and Maritime Investments at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, spoke to “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
Speaking from Posidonia 2026, where we met him, he discussed the importance of the exhibition, the significance of Greek shipping, and the need to attract young people to careers in the maritime sector.
Among other things, Mr. Kyriazopoulos emphasized that: “As Greeks, we have something unique in our DNA, and from ancient times to the present day we have managed to excel at sea. We must attract as many young people as possible to seafaring, shipping, and maritime-related professions. Everyone stands to benefit from shipping. The Greek maritime community also understands emerging developments, and that is one of the reasons why it has distinguished itself worldwide.”
In closing, Mr. Kyriazopoulos offered advice to younger generations, encouraging them “to enter the maritime sector from an early age and to develop a love for the sea. They should learn how to swim and take up sailing.”
