Captain Antonis Pitsilos, President of the Chios Marine Club, spoke to Voice of Greece and the program “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”
“We owe a great deal to the generations of seafarers who came before us. Without them, we would not have the maritime miracle we enjoy today—the Greek merchant fleet that is admired around the world and celebrated through this major exhibition. We must continue to acknowledge their contribution and never forget it. My entire family, and I myself, have been part of the seafaring profession. A heartfelt thank you is owed to these people.
I was deeply moved to see so many young students from the Merchant Marine Academies, accompanied by their instructors, visiting this major exhibition to learn about the developments and prospects of the global shipping industry, in which Greece holds a leading position,” Captain Pitsilos emphasized, among other remarks.
