“Our Town” welcomes three leading participants in the Delphi International Psychoanalytic Symposium: Symposium chair and psychoanalyst Dimitris-James Jackson, and psychoanalysts Maria Chatziandreou and Sotiris Manolopoulos.
Dimitris-James Jackson discusses “Authority and Authoritarianism,” a subject of particular relevance to both psychoanalysis and society. Maria Chatziandreou presents the Symposium’s cultural events, including actor Themis Panou’s readings of ancient texts by Euripides and Thucydides, as well as Maria Loutzakli’s photography exhibition, “What the Statues See.”
The third speaker, Sotiris Manolopoulos, explores the Symposium’s central themes, their connection with ancient literary texts, and what those texts can teach us today.
The discussion also examines the symbolic significance of Delphi and the distinction between authority, which helps individuals discover their own truth, and authoritarianism, a phenomenon of our time that imposes someone else’s truth upon them. This distinction is explored within psychoanalysis and, above all, contemporary society.
