On today’s episode of “Voices and Music,” we welcomed internationally active drummer Giorgos Maniatis live in the studio.
We explored his remarkable 14-year career as a session musician in New York’s demanding music scene. A highlight of the interview was his collaborations with Grammy-winning legends of jazz, soul, and Latin music.
He spoke about being named one of five drummer semifinalists worldwide for Wynton Marsalis’s orchestra. He described performing at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note, and Lincoln Center, and shared memories of his daily contact with and support from the Greek American community.
He discussed the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities he encountered after returning to Greece. He closed by sharing his approach to teaching, the importance of groove, and his advice for the next generation.
