“Our Town” presents “Nikos Karouzos in Stockholm,” a tribute marking 100 years since the poet’s birth.
His close friend, poet and author Kostis Papakongos, a distinguished figure in the Greek diaspora who has lived in Stockholm since the 1960s, gives one of his rare radio interviews, shedding light on important material relating to Karouzos’s life and work.
He discusses letters spanning their long friendship, poems, short essays, photographs, and articles in the Swedish and Greek press. Many of these articles concern the publication in Sweden of “Captive Freedom,” the first book by Karouzos to appear in translation abroad.
Also joining the program are Kostas Kremmydas, poet and publisher of the literary magazine “Mandragoras,” and editor Angeliki Asprogeraka-Griva, who played a pivotal role in the publication of “Karouzos in Stockholm.” The book explores a fascinating period in the poet’s life, during which he formed important friendships and creative partnerships.
